It’s no secret that Olympia’s are my favorite brand…
There are specific Typewriters I like more, but Olympia is MY BRAND.
The reason for this is the amount of thought that went into the creation of these amazing machines is mind-boggling. German precision, consistency, and a stunningly handsome, classic design that holds up well even now. The SM series is arguably one of the best ever made, and the SM5 is a fun, uncommon little enigma.
The SM5 was released as the “budget” model alongside the SM7. It was based on the tried and true design of the hugely popular SM3, but updated a bit and some of the minor features omitted to keep the overall cost down. Like the SM8, the SM5 lacks touch control, has manual tab stops and paper rest, and has painted carriage ends versus chrome. Otherwise, it is virtually identical mechanically to the SM3.
I love the antique cream color chosen for the paint with the green accent keys. Similar to the SM7, and just a classy looking typer.
The action is like most SM’s, quick, snappy, and consistent. The case is in good shape as well, latches properly, and does a great job protecting the machine.
Overall, it is mechanically and aesthetically about as sound as one could ask for, very quick, very precise, all functions perform flawlessly. This machine was VERY well taken care of!
This is NOT an "as-is" typewriter. It has been lovingly cleaned, oiled, serviced, and thoroughly tested to ensure it'll hang with whatever you decide to write with it.
