Olympia ALL CAP DOUBLE GOTHIC Typeface (12 CPI)

The SM3 became the template for Olympias future in the portable Typewriter world. Improvements were made as the years progressed, but the base design remained largely the same. SM3s are consistently on the top 10 lists of best portable Typewriters ever made. If you’ve used one before, there’s no doubt as to why that is.
This Brown Betty has been stripped, cleaned, adjusted, and it has new frame bushings, rejuvenated feed rollers and a BRAND NEW PLATEN recovered by the fine folks at J.J. Short & Associates, but the ALL CAP DOUBLE GOTHIC typeface(font) is the real MVP of this wonderful machine! ACDG is a modern, monospaced sans-serif font that prints only in capital letters. Easily legible, compact, and R A R E! I’ve had this machine for several years in my personal collection, it’s only the 2nd example of this typeface I’ve seen on an Olympia, and the ONLY example I’ve seen on a SM3.
The action quick and tight, and the carriage shift has been adjusted to be light as a feather. The paint is in good shape, a bit of patina here and there, but nothing to detract from the overall aesthetic of such a timeless classic.
This color combination is incredibly classy, the rich chocolate brown is beautifully matched with the dark brown accent hardware.
The iconic hammered silver “panzer” case is in decent condition, a bit of patina & battle scars, but still functioning the way it should and a great accompaniment to such a handsome machine.
If you’re looking for a beautiful example of German engineering, you cannot go wrong with an Olympia SM.
