1972 Smith Corona Sterling *Boogie Down Chocolate Nanner*
Pica Typeface (10 cpi)
Classic, yet modern.
Considered by many to be the pinnacle of SCM portables, the Galaxie line of Typewriters are fantastic machines.
This machine is the Galaxie era example of a model that Smith Corona started in the 1930’s and continued to market and develop until they quit producing manual Typewriters. The 5 series gets a lot of attention, but the 6-7 series were solid, reliable Typewriters that incorporated a decidedly space age aesthetic that still holds up 50 years later!
This one is WONDERFUL condition, and for some reason this 1970’s boogie down color combo has ALWAYS appealed to me on a visceral level! Chocolate Banana, that’s what we’ll call it. :)
Aesthetically and mechanically, this machine has it all. The pica typeface is professional, classic, and easy on the eyes at 10 characters per inch. Snappy and fun machine, great for extended writing.
These portables are much beloved by collectors and writers alike.
The 50's era Smith Coronas were(and are) a fine example of American design and quality that only improved as they moved into the 60’s and 70’s.
The case is the classic SCM metal ones, in almost as nice of shape as the machine, and does a fine job protecting the machine. The Typewriter locks into the bottom of the case with a smart design that incorporates the lid latch. Really durable, really handsome.
This is NOT an "as-is" typewriter.
It has been lovingly cleaned, oiled, serviced, and thoroughly tested to ensure it'll hang with whatever you decide to write with it.
It comes with everything you see in the pictures and more;
A brand spankin' new solid black or bichrome red/black ribbon on vintage Smith Corona metal spools(installed), a reprinted original owners manual, the typewriter, it's case, an OFFICIAL Nashville Typewriter sticker and hand-typed note from me, the typeface text sample, and even a few sheets of paper to get you started on the path to analog independence and distraction free writing!
FREE shipping in the continental US, estimates available for international buyers upon request.
