1964 Smith Corona Corsair *Great condition, very early build*

$325.00

Pica Typeface (10 cpi)

The portable, ultra portable!

If you’ve been hunting for affordable, lightweight writing iron that doesn't mind tagging along on your daily adventures, this ultraportable Smith-Corona Corsair is ready to rock!

These cute little aqua ultraportables are the final boss of the beloved Skyriter, and share very similar mechanics.(Almost identical really, with a few slight changes such as color selection and tabulation)

These are one of the machines that divide those in the collectors world. People either love them, or hate them.

Personally, I’ve found that most issues with these little fellers stem from struggling quality control many major Typewriter manufacturers faced during this era for their manual machines. Electrics pretty much dominated the market leaving less and less demand for manual portables and by proxy- less money spent in QC and R&D.

The result?

Many manuals suffered from poor build quality, leaving consumers in the infamous Saab convertible dilemma. You either got an AMAZING car, or an absolute lemon.

This is a good one. It has a great snappy feel, solid imprint, and was well maintained by its former owner. I wouldn’t even list one of these unless it felt good. :)

This is NOT an "as-is" typewriter.

It has been lovingly cleaned, oiled, serviced, and thoroughly tested to ensure it'll hang with whatever you decide to write with it.

It comes with everything you see in the pictures and more;

A brand spankin' new solid black or bichrome red/black ribbon on vintage spools, a reprinted original owners manual, the typewriter, it's case, an OFFICIAL Nashville Typewriter sticker and hand-typed note from me, the typeface text sample, and even a few sheets of paper to get you started on the path to analog independence and distraction free writing!

FREE shipping in the continental US, estimates available for international buyers upon request.

Here’s the TL;DR version. :)

They aren't quite the full experience you have with a full sized portable or standard, but these well made little ultras are just about as fun as they come.

This little Skyriter is in good shape. It’s the last iteration of Skyriters, and is really a Corsair under the Skyriter branding. It is not as high of quality as the earlier models, but still has a comfortable action and works well. The travel of the keys is minimal and fairly easy, not typical on ultra portables as the linkages are shortened. The “Deluxe” designation speaks to the addition of a bicolor ribbon switch, tabulation, and the “Power Spacer”, an auto space function present on many late 60’s-70”s portables.

The type imprint is somewhat rough, but endearing in its own way. Like the 3rd gen, the end result looks like what people expect from typewritten print. I love using it for quotes, poems, and social media posts. Not a novel writer, but still has a cool aesthetic and feel to it. :)

I have a brand new solid black cotton ribbon from Baco loaded in it on original Smith Corona spools that are specific to this machine, so if this becomes yours, make sure to hold onto those spools if you change out the ribbon! :)

The case is a ABS plastic “clamshell” lid that snaps onto the machine. Very easy to use, and makes transport a snap!

Fun fact:

Many of Smith Coronas portable Typewriters were named with aircraft/flight in mind. (Both airplanes, AND spacecraft!)

The Clipper, Corsair, Skyriter, Galaxie, Enterprise, Meteor, Mark V, Zephyr, Comet, Ultrasonic, and Vantage are all examples of this.

Skyriters are much beloved by both collectors and writers alike for their snappy, consistent performance and GREAT portability.

I keep meaning to actually KEEP one, but every one I come across ends up going to someone that needs it more than I. 😂
