1927 Adler-Klein Adler 2 **Personal Collection**
*Adler Pica - 10 cpi
A beautiful example of German engineering and design, the Adler Klein-Adler 2 is a rare and highly sought-after vintage typewriter. Its history is a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of the portable typewriter in Europe.
Adler had a long history of creating robust and reliable office machines. While American companies like Corona were cornering the market on lightweight portables, Adlerwerke launched its own competitor, the Klein-Adler (meaning "small Adler"), in 1913. This initial model, however, was still a bit heavy and large.
It wasn't until the mid-1920s that Adler truly perfected its portable design with the Klein-Adler 2. Produced from around 1928, this model was a significant leap forward. Unlike the rounded, older style of its predecessor, the Klein-Adler 2 featured a sleek, angular, and strikingly modern design, a perfect example of the Art Deco aesthetic of the era.
But it wasn't just about looks. This machine's innovative "thrust-action" typing mechanism, positioned the typebars horizontally, allowing the machine to be incredibly flat and compact. It is a very similar action as the “Noiseless” machines produced by Remington and Underwood.
The distinctive Adler pica typeface is striking- slightly elongated compared to classic pica, but classy and easy to read at 10 characters per inch.
It's in great condition overall- the paint and mechanics are both in good shape with only part of the logo decal worn. The case shows wear, but still functions very well at protecting and transporting this stunning little machine.
This has been a part of my personal collection for years, and I hope its next custodian enjoys it as much as I have.
It has been lovingly cleaned, oiled, serviced, and thoroughly tested to ensure it'll hang with whatever you decide to write with it.
It comes with everything you see in the pictures and more;
YOUR CHOICE of a brand spankin' new solid black ribbon available in cotton or nylon on vintage specific metal spools(installed), a reprinted original owners manual, the typewriter, hard case, an OFFICIAL Nashville Typewriter sticker and hand-typed note from me, the typeface text sample, and even a few sheets of paper to get you started on the path to analog independence and distraction free writing!
Has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled lightly in the spots that are supposed to be, and serviced by someone that LOVES typewriters.
FREE SHIPPING in the continental US!
