I find it funny that a Swiss made machine is commonly referred to as "The Cadillac of Portable Typewriters", but it's an apt comparison! These feature rich machines are highly sought after and treasured for their precision, usability, and fine quality.
This is really nice, highly sought after 1st gen model of the machine Tom Hanks named as his one luxury item to have on a desert island- The Hermes 3000.
The machine is in great shape and performs beautifully. The distinctive seafoam green paint is in good condition, very few signs of use, nothing that detracts from the overall aesthetic of such a beautiful machine. BOTH platen knobs are intact and original, a rarity in itself!
I adore the curves of this machine, and it’s a joy to write with. This is one of the better examples of this model that I’ve come across, it was well taken care of by its original owner.
The script is just as curvy and whimsical as the machine, I adore how some of the letters swoop down past the line! It has a brand new platen recovered by the folks at J.J. Short, and it greatly benefits the action and feel of the typing experience.
It’s an immaculate, valuable machine. The market for these has continued to trend upward for the past 5 years, but it’s heirloom quality for those wanting a keeper! It is expensive, but within the trending market value for one of these professionally serviced with a new platen.
