Adler Elite - 12 cpi
Adler made some darn fine typewriters.
The most famous of which, the Adler Universal 39 desktop used in the Stephen King movie, “The Shining” , eluded me for the 5 years before finally finding one in 2021. (At least SOMETHING good came out of that year…)
These beauties are really good machines.
Well built, smooth action, excellent type feel, and consistent print make these a machine to be reckoned with!
This one was very well taken care of, the paint/plastic is in great shape, mechanics are tight, carriage is smooth. The case is functional, but the little compression levers used to latch the machine into the base were broken. (this is almost ALWAYS the case) I’ve installed foam pads in the lid to hold the machine in place as a workaround, and it seems to work even better in my opinion.
The J4 is a wonderful machine, and the elite typeface is crisp, professional, and fits more on the page at 12 characters per inch.
These are fine examples of German precision, and every bit as nice as Olympia’s top of the line SM9 in my opinion. (I actually prefer the way these type if I’m being honest, and I’m an Olympia guy! 😂)
Like all my machines, it comes with your choice of ribbon mounted on vintage metal spools(installed), the case, the Typewriter, a reprinted owners manual, typeface sample, an OFFICIAL Nashville Typewriter sticker, a hand-typed note from me, and even a bit of paper to get you started on the path to distraction-free writing!
I genuinely LOVE Typewriters, and pack them very well.
