Olympia Senatorial Typeface (11 CPI)
The Olympia SM series are arguably some of the finest ever produced. After a few sentences typed on one, you’ll understand why!
Senatorial is a really cool, mostly sans serif, roboto looking font with squared edges. (The R and the I have serifs oddly, the rest don’t) Very cool, very easy to read, and distinctive as heck!
The SM3 became the template for Olympias future in the portable Typewriter world. Improvements were made as the years progressed, but the base design remained largely the same.
This AWESOME Olympia has been stripped, cleaned, adjusted, it has new frame bushings, rejuvenated feed rollers & platen.(The platen is actually a rubber swap replacement with a late model SM9 onto a SM3 core, still very soft. But it was a PAIN to pull off! Ha.) The spring loaded keytops make this a very nice typing machine!
This color combination is one of my favorites(and the first I acquired) Olympia offered. The light repose gray is matched beautifully by the dark burgundy keys and knobs. Such a handsome machine!
The SM3 is a wonderful example of Olympias fine precision and spectacular craftsmanship. It is an excellent typing machine, the senatorial typeface(font) crisp, professional, and always gives me 2001 A Space Odyssey vibes. The action is quick and tight, and the carriage shift has been adjusted to be light as a feather. The distinctive grey paint is in really good shape, and accented perfectly by the deep burgundy keys and platen knobs. The silver “panzer” case is sadly not in as wonderful shape as the machine and required some repair, but it latches as it should, and still does a great job protecting this beautiful machine. *I had to completely reform the right hinge on my jewelry bench, one of my prouder achievements! :)
